KirwanStateSchool, situated in Townsville, North Queensland has approximately 800 students. A Principal (Mrs Melissa Jackson), two Deputy Principals (Mrs Helen Yench and Mr John Kratzmann)), a Head of Curriculum (Ms Patricia Mcevey (Acting)), a Head of Special Education Services(Ms Hanne Secher (Acting)), a Chaplain and a Guidance Officer along with 33 highly professional classroom teachers and over 30 support staff promote the safe and supportive environment which allows students to live our school motto “Strive to Excel”.
The Kirwan community acknowledges that life long learning is a social process which develops as individuals interact with each other and their environment. Our curriculum aims to provide for the differential needs, interests, abilities and backgrounds of students. The school population includes families from the Defence Forces, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, single and double income parents and ESL families.
This website aims to provide valuable information about our school to parents and visitors and provide a platform to share students’ work. I hope you will take a tour and familiarise yourself with the opportunities we provide for students. We look forward to meeting with you as you choose Kirwan as the placement for your child.
