Young Language Ambassador's Conference 2019

Kirwan State School's Young Language Ambassadors: Kaitlin Bitossi, Danae Colwell, Emma Curtis, Crystal Darr, Violet Fraser, Sienna Lloyd-Jones, Madison Ross, and Stephanie Wheatley.
Eight students from Kirwan State School participated in the Young Language Ambassador's Conference at James Cook University on the 25th July 2019. This conference is designed to allow students to engage with other language speakers, and to help build stronger internationally-minded communities and well-rounded global citizens.

During the conference this year, the attending students listened to, and engaged with guest speakers. These speakers were all in different phases of their lives and careers, but were all connected in this conference through language. The attending Kirwan students listened to conference topics such as: 'Building bridges and intercultural leadership', ‘You are never too young to create your future’, ' Challenging our sense of place: You don’t have to go far to be successful', as well as listening to fellow language learners share their language learning experiences through exchange programs, and online language learning in rural communities. Our Kirwan students were very attentive during these sessions, and engaged well during the conference, asking each guest speaker about their experiences, passions, and the importance of learning a second language. Overall, it was a fantastic day celebrating languages, and connecting with other language learners within our community.
