Kirwan State School - An Independent Public School

Kirwan State School was established in 1977 and has approximatley 900 students. The Kirwan professional community consists of a Principal, 2 Deputy Principals, a Head of Curriculum, a Head of Special Education, a Chaplain and a Guidance Officer along with 37 highly trained, professional classroom teachers and over 30 support staff.

At Kirwan we have whole school learning targets and goals.  All staff track these goals at regular intervals and, as a school, we have plans in place to meet these goals.  Our whole school targets include:

  • 85% of students reaching a C or Above in English by the end of Semester 2
  • 70% of students reading at school PM benchmark reading levels (Prep to Year 6)
  • 100% of students Above the National Minimum Standard in NAPLAN reading and writing tests
  • 95% Whole school attendance
  • Safe, supportive, classroom learning environments (OneSchool data entries)

How do we do this….

  • Consistent high expectations – of ourselves and our students
  • Strong research base driving our teaching and learning practices
  • Developing capability in our teachers – professional development, peer collaboration, coaching, mentoring, feedback,
  • Using Evidence to drive all decisions (school, classroom, individual students)
  • Collaboration – working together

Kirwan State School is a zoned school for all enrolments from Prep to Year 6.  For enrolment eligibility and information please see our enrolment page.
